Events begin at 10am and continue until 5.30pm
Quays Culture present our next exciting event: the Quays Open Day, a curated programme of events happening all over the Quays on just one day.
Take a stroll around the Media City Plaza and enjoy the sights and sounds of the striking sound installation Audible Forces then take in the talk from the astonishing intellect of theorist and activist Pat Kane . You might also like to take a peek behind the scenes of one of the cultural organisations at the Quays; enjoy a tour with a Lowry curator at the Alison Goldfrapp: Performer as Curator exhibition, or gain insight into the changes in the impact of conflict on civilians from the First World War to now from Imperial War Museum North‘s very own director Graham Boxer.
The Lowry’s dance Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) will be throwing open their doors giving the public the rare opportunity to see their students train with dance practitioners from Phoenix Dance Theatre. Local artist Nicola Ellis‘s stunning piece ‘Osseous’ will be on show in the Open Centre and the artist will give a talk about her piece and her art practice.
Our resident artist John O Shea, with Ellie Harrison, has produced a wonderful series of performances with digital artists at the peak of their practice. Seven artists have been invited to create their own take on the familiar 'weather forecast' in front of a greenscreen, each will explore the interconnectedness of a variety of local and global systems - not just meteorological, but social, political or financial - presenting a different 'worldview'.
The Other Forecast films will be premiered at a special event hosted by Ellie Harrison and John O'Shea in the Digital Performance Lab at the University of Salford on Saturday 26 October at 4pm. They will then be broadcast on the Big Screen at MediaCityUK at 13:30 and 17:30 each day during the week 4-10 November 2013.
After all that culture, you might like to indulge in some retail therapy, so why not take advantage of one day only market of design, craft and art, or perhaps pamper yourself with some of the special offers available at the Lowry Outlet Mall.
