Ordsall Hall, North West Small Visitor Attraction of the Year 2007, has witnessed many things throughout its long and illustrious 660 year history, but hundreds of years of history inevitably take their toll.

Extraordinary Ordsall Campaign
Ordsall Hall has witnessed many things throughout its long and illustrious 660 year history, but hundreds of years of history inevitably take their toll.

Salford City Council and The Friends of Salford Museums have submitted a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund to ensure Ordsall Hall's future is as colourful as its past.

A campaign has been launched to raise £1 million to restore and preserve the building itself, while also making sure as much of the hall as possible is open for visitors to see. More

Imperial War Museum North Wins Prestigious Silver Award In Tourism Oscars
Imperial War Museum North won a prestigious Silver Award for "Large Visitor Attraction of the Year" at the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2007 and was crowned as one of the top 3 Large Visitor Attractions in the country. Organised by VisitBritain, the national tourism agency, the annual tourism "Oscars", recognise the best of England's tourism.

Imperial War Museum North, along with other finalists had already beat off stiff competition to win the award for the local regions (Manchester Tourism Awards in February 2006 and North West Tourism Awards in October 2006), and was rigorously assessed to make it through to the national shortlist, demonstrating excellence against strict criteria such as service and customer care. The Museum was shortlisted for the award alongside Alnwick Castle, Northumberland (where the Harry Potter films were set) and Brunel's SS Great Britain in Bristol. These top three venues had already fought stiff competition against attractions such as the National Portrait Gallery, Cadbury World and Ascot Racecourse, to make the final shortlist.

Jim Forrester, director of IWM North said "I am extremely proud and pleased that the hard work of the whole team at IWM North has been recognised with a top national tourism award in our 5th anniversary year. The history of war and conflict is a complicated and emotional subject to communicate through museum displays and programmes and we try to make it accessible to people of all ages. Our distinctive building is a landmark in the region now and well over a million visitors have been inside to experience our innovative displays including the memorable Big Picture. I hope they will come again with friends and families to see our next exhibition, The Animals' War, which starts at the end of May and that many more people from across the North will come and visit IWM North to understand how war has shaped so many people's lives."
