Peel Media's vision is to make MediaCityUK the largest purpose-built media community in Europe. The first phase, spread over 36 acres, will be completed in 2011 but there is the potential to utilise the entire site of 200 acres over the next decade, depending on demand
MediaCityUK is being developed and managed by Peel Media, a division of the Peel Group. One of the leading property and transport companies in the UK, the Peel Group has an asset value approaching £7bn. In total, Peel Medias investment in phase one of MediaCityUK will amount to £500 million. A range of partners is also involved in the development, including Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company, the Northwest Regional Development Agency and Salford City Council.
A unique environment for the sector to grow and prosper, MediaCityUK will be a place for people to work, live and play. In addition to one of Europe's biggest high definition TV studios and an unparalleled communications infrastructure, the site will boast a public piazza capable of staging events for up to 9,000 people. The first phase is due for completion in 2011, when the BBC will relocate five London-based departments to The Quays, including Sport and Radio 5 Live.
